Hey Everyone! It’s been a long time since I’ve posted…sorry about that. I guess my absence from our blog is indicative of the fast pace of our lives these past few months. In three months, I moved, Taylor job searched, he found a renter for his house, I found a buyer for mine, we planned the rest of our wedding, and traveled every single weekend either me to Shreveport or him to Baton Rouge so we could be sure we stay “connected.” WHEW! It’s been crazy! …but many of the pieces we were worried about getting resolved in this transition have surprisingly come out well. It’s these times in my life when I’m reminded that I’ve ALWAYS been taken care of by God and the people I love even when times get rough or uncertain. Amazing.

This weekend, Taylor and I are going to tailgate at Tiger Stadium for the first time EVER…SO excited, and will no doubt be the first of many chances for us to party with the rest of the city of Baton Rouge.

Taylor and I were talking just yesterday about the fact that there is only a little more than a month until we see all of you at the wedding. Thank you so much for supporting us and for making the effort to be with us on that special day. We just can’t wait.

Praying for you from far away–

Love, Katie

I woke up this morning–May 14th–and realized it’s about one month until the move and close to five months until we are married. There are so many things to be done before then, and Taylor and I both have been trying our best (he better than I) to pace ourselves and take it one day at a time. My house is on the market, and his is getting there…we’ve made so much progress in the last couple weeks.

It was my birthday last weekend (yikes!), and we decided instead of a big party or get-together like I might usually have with friends, a quiet weekend would be a welcome break from all the traveling I’ve had to do for work recently. We had a fun diversion that morning to a Centenary graduation party for Jess and Adam, two staff people/friends that work with me, then the rest of the weekend we spent with The Simpsons and Chenoweths–all Taylor’s family–and it was a blast. On that Sunday after church, we had a party for Mammaw, who also has a May birthday, and for all the Mothers. All I can say is two words: Chocolate Pie…mmmmm! Here’s a nice picture of me and “the ladies”:

It was an extra treat to have my own mom come in later in the day…haven’t spent Mother’s Day together with her in a long time. Taylor and I went out to eat with her and the rest of my mom’s side of the family.

This weekend we’ll make a trip to see three of my friends graduate from seminary at Perkins in Dallas–DeAndre, Megan, and Jared. Hope we’ll make a stop by Mammaw and Pappaw’s house, too.

We pray that y’all are doing well. More updates coming soon!

Easter at Asbury 2009

Easter at Asbury 2009

Well, we’re finally beginning to post. So much has happened since that day so long ago that Taylor “popped the question,” so I plan to backtrack some over the next few posts to catch everyone up to speed. The main thing that has happened in our lives, however, is that we are moving.

Those of you who know me well expected this at some point, but for those of you who I’m just getting to know from Taylor’s life, or have yet to meet, it may come as a surprise. I am a United Methodist pastor in Louisiana, and in our church we itinerate (which means move around to different churches every few years). This year, I have been appointed to First United Methodist Church, Baton Rouge as one of their Associate Pastors. Taylor and I are presently trying to get our houses on the market, and we have calls out to a number of friends in the area trying to connect Taylor with a job that he will enjoy and be passionate about. There is a lot of promise for him in that area–so we’re hoping for the best. I have found a place to live in Baton Rouge and Taylor and I will live there once we are married and he moves down (yes, we will have to live apart for awhile, but we’ll alternate weekends seeing each other and family/friends.) Anyone who wants to come take a vacation in South Louisiana is more than welcome! We’d love to see you…

I think what we are both dealing with now is a little grief of not being able to spend our first years where we met. Bossier has been a great place for us with lots of friends, and we will both miss it. But we’re getting more and more excited as plans fall into place and questions are answered. I’m looking forward to making my hometown a place where he can genuinely call “home” too. Another piece, obviously, is that I will miss my work at Asbury. In many ways, I feel like I just got started there, and I wished for a few more years to be apart of their ministry, but I know they will thrive and I’m looking forward to hearing stories about their successes and growth as a congregation.

We are still having our wedding here in Bossier/Shreveport on October 17th, so the move won’t alter that plan. Ceremony will be at Asbury UMC, Bossier, and the reception will be at the Petroleum Club in downtown Shreveport. We’re beginning to look at it as a mini-vacation, with a nice honeymoon tacked on the end. :) Can’t wait to see you there!
